Bathroom manufacturer Ideal Standard International, has more than 9,500 staff across more than 20 countries and includes many famous operating brands such as Armitage Shanks in the UK.
Our Client was looking for a tool which provided quick and easy access to information on product standards, operating procedures, health and safety updates and online training courses.
What we delivered
Usability and accessibility are crucial factors in the success of any system and StyleTech’s brief was to engage as many employees as possible. Tackling this challenge amongst a diversely skilled and dispersed staff, from employees with PC’s on their desk to employees in the factory areas whose work does not ordinarily call for IT skills, required a particularly creative approach. StyleTech’s solution uses a “portal café” with touch-screen kiosk technology installed into canteens and walk-ways.
The information is updated in real time and available 24 hours a day, every day.
The intranet is receiving over 5,000 hits a week and there has been a 400% increase in the training course take-up. Long term benefits include cost savings, environmental benefits, scalability and functionality as the system and company evolve.
The British Association of Communicators in Business (CiB) awards celebrates excellence in business communication across all types of media. StyleTech’s bespoke intranet system developed for Ideal Standard UK won the top prize because in the judges’ opinion it was “an outstanding system, a best practice example that delivers real value to the client organisation”.

Ideal Standard International approached StyleTech looking for a system to better manage and assess the performance and development of employees across the company. It was crucial that the system ensured an effective appraisal system, linked to appropriate career goals and challenges, with progress reviewed at regular intervals. The company already had an online system, but it offered no clear method of assessment or review for the Human Resources department with regard to quality of objectives and appraisals, and the consistent management of staff development.
